“3D First person fantasy inspired by Japanese mythology. Exploring the theme of chaos theory with multiple procedural generated dimensions (open worlds). These are created based on the decisions you make in the previous dimension as you play through each one.”


Introduction 

This is the GDD document for my game “Realms of Kami”. This title was chosen as the player will be living, exploring and fighting their way through the gods cruel and beautiful worlds. The game is based on Japanese mythology as you will see later in the document, the word for “God” in Japan is “Kami” thus the title. I hope you enjoy the journey through this document showing the creation of this game, highlighting the concepts of the amazing worlds and its characters, But also the core mechanics and how the game functions through its unique game play.

Along the top of the page is a navigation bar with headers to each section of my GDD document.

  • Home This will take you the page you are on now and is the first tab on the bar. so if you get lost and want to go back to the home page just click this.
  • JAM  This is the second tab on the bar. It can be selected to bring up a page of all the posts related to the workshop activities I undertook that helped in the creation and understanding for the design of my GDD game. Alternatively you can hover over this tab which will present a drop down menu of each of these posts in order and will take you straight to that post when selected.
  • ResearchThe third tab when selected will clearly direct you to a page with all the research posts. This will explain my research from the initial concept for the game and the journey of how got to where I am. It mostly highlights  key points within my digital sketch book of research in which there will be a link to in the blogs. Alternatively you can hover over this tab which will present a drop down menu of each of these posts in order and will take you straight to that post when selected.
  • Game This the fourth tab will direct you to a page with all the posts regarding everything to do with the initial and basic ideas for the game. This will be the main body of the introduction to the GDD with pages showing content such as the overview and design goals. Alternatively you can hover over this tab which will present a drop down menu of each of these posts in order and will take you straight to that post when selected.
  • Mechanics –  The fifth tab will direct you to the page with all the posts that detail the games mechanics and features such as how the map generation works.The games mechanics are my minor focus for the GDD. Alternatively you can hover over this tab which will present a drop down menu of each of these posts in order and will take you straight to that post when selected.
  • Art –  The last tab will direct you to the page with all the posts that show the concept art for the game world such as character environments and items .The concept art is my Major focus for the GDD. Alternatively you can hover over this tab which will present a drop down menu of each of these posts in order and will take you straight to that post when selected.
